We
made gingerbread houses at the senior couple’s home. We bought already put
together ones and just decorated them but it was fun. She made the best one, but
I didn't get a picture of it.
After
decorating and having dinner, we went to see the family we've been teaching. I
didn't think they had been praying because we had trouble seeing them all week
since inviting them to pray together—but they have been! They said they can
really feel the difference it's made and feel the peace it brings. We read Enos
with them, and invited them to read every day and they said they would. :]
We
got a referral from someone in Oakland via text to bring a Spanish Book of
Mormon and a Joy to the World DVD to
a woman. We found out that the woman didn’t speak much English and we didn’t
speak much Spanish, but we tried. She was very kind and invited us in. Although
her husband belongs to another church, her sister's family is all members in
California and she wants to come to church. My planner is in Spanish because we
didn't have another English one—ha, ha. Mind you, our conversation was mostly
in Spanish with a lot of gestures and hand motions, but it was a good lesson
and she invited us back. She said her arms were open to us. :] Then
we helped at the Relief Society dinner. It was great!
On
Wednesday, we went with the senior couple to an investigator’s home to help her
quit smoking. There's this cool stop smoking program that involves 15 steps for
7 days. It includes a lot of cinnamon flavored things because food causes
people to want to smoke but if you finish every meal with brushing your teeth
and cinnamon mouth wash it confuses the heck out of your mouth so you don't
have a desire to smoke. She slipped the first night, but she started over the
next day and she's been going strong!
That's it from Kansas!

Sister Mortensen neglected to mention that she won 1st prize in the ugly sweater contest at the zone conference with this tasteful number she's wearing in this picture!
ReplyDeleteI can see why she won!
