Ups and Downs

Maybe Sister Mortensen's member friend saw my name at the library.

We went on exchanges this week and I went to Liberal and worked with a sister missionary there. We had dinner at a member's house and the lady there was talking about children’s authors and that she reviews them on a blog or something. So I mentioned that you are a children's author and she had heard of you! She said she hasn't read any of your books but that she knew of you, which I thought was awesome! My mama's famous!

On Halloween we aren't really sure what we'll be doing. We know we aren't allowed to dress up or to hand out candy. The night before, we’ll be at the Trunk or Treat which is very popular.

The wheels on the bike go round and round . . .

I was able to fix my bike's flat tire, but then my companion's tire went flat and we haven't fixed it yet, so we've been walking mostly. Saturday we walked more than 6 miles or so. It was dreadful. Dodge City is actually pretty hilly and it's been pretty cold lately. We had our first snow on Wednesday. It was a very light snow but it was cold. So that's been...something.

Hoofing it in Dodge City.

A general authority talked to our mission president about our mission for like 2 hours. during which time he promised him that if we talk to 10 extra people each day our baptisms will quadruple. So we've been trying to talk to everyone we see which has been challenging.
Our District Leader does magic tricks. He does this crazy one where he has you sign your name on a card and then he folds it up and you put it in your mouth. Then he signs a card folds it up and puts it in his mouth. Then you shake hands and you take out your card and it's the card he signed and put in his mouth! It's crazy and I don't know how it's done, but he did that trick on me and the card he signed was the five of diamonds. He has haunted me with that card ever since. He gave me half of a five of diamonds and I'm just waiting for the other half to pop up somewhere...just waiting...

A new member couple went to the temple for the first time this week! I wish I could have gone with them but they had a good time and did a few family names. They're wonderful and are excited to share the gospel with their friends. We're teaching three of them currently and they're doing really well. She enjoys the Book of Mormon and seems to know it's true. We're meeting with her on Thursday so we hope that will go well and we can invite her to be baptized.

Anyway I love you Mom!
