| Lots of smiles at Zone Conference |
So I wasn't able to have P-Day yesterday because we had a
mission conference. A General Authority is doing a mission tour and we were
able to see him yesterday. It was quite the
event. They all spoke with us about missionary work and at the moment I
can't recall everything that was said. I took notes but I don't have them with
me. But the whole thing went from 11-5. Lunch was provided and it was all very
good. There was a point in the conference that a few missionaries were called
to do role plays. First he called the A.P.s (assistants to the
president) and they did one just fine. Then he said “Let’s have some sisters
volunteer.” The sister on my right kept trying to put my
hand up and was nudging me. I was firm in resisting...until he called
on us himself. It went well, but it was
definitely intimidating! Unfortunately, we weren't able to see any
investigators yesterday because by the end of the conference, it was dark and
we don't go walking in the dark.
My bike is being fixed by a member of the ward. He says it's
a quick, easy fix and he was surprised that missionaries aren't given any
instruction on simple bike repairs. I'll be getting my bike back on Wednesday
and hopefully he can show me what he did so I can do it next time.
Our investigator is doing great! She loves us and that we
come over. She promised to come to church this Sunday. It's been hard hoping to
have people at church and not having anyone show up. But we know that this
Sunday we will have at least one.
I was kind of getting a headache at church this last Sunday
from small annoyances, but the lesson in Relief Society was in Spanish and so
all the English speakers needed to get headphones so we could hear the
translation. An elder did the translation and he was having some difficulty
because he's so used to translating to Spanish. My favorite quotes from the lesson
were "I think faith and virtue...I didn't hear what she said...I translate
to Spanish not to English" and "We went to the temple
and...what?...oh she's saying.." It lightened my mood and I just thought
it was so funny.
Yesterday before the conference, we went to breakfast to
celebrate an elder's birthday. They gave me and my companion a
free breakfast and the rest of the district got 20% off. They were super nice. We're
going to go see them today and thank them and see if they've found a church yet
and talk with them for a bit. :]

Thank you for the pictures of Grandpa on his mission! He was
so handsome! Everyone is so impressed to hear that my mom is an author and that
you've published so many books by the way! They always say “Why haven't you
told us that before?” and I say "It didn't come up before"—ha, ha! I
can't be bragging about you left and right! haha.
Also...I'm sending a package home today and I want a promise
that you will still love me :]
Love you mom!
Jaimie

Sister Mortensen minimized the part about her doing the role play at our conference with the G.A. Imagine being called up by a General Authority to basically give an impromptu lesson in front of 60 other missionaries, your mission president and his wife and a General Authority and his wife...she did it flawlessly! We were so proud of Sister M.! : )
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy--that does give a different picture, doesn't it! I'm glad she did well in spite of her reservations.
