California Here I Come . . .

California dreamin'

There are some great retired men in the ward that are SO willing to help us, it's so great and appreciated. Bro Self and Bro Goodrick are fantastic and are all about fulfilling their priesthood duties. They are just about the only people we can get to come up to Holton. So they are Holton's home teachers haha. They're great.

We're staying at the bishop's family's house this weekend. They have 5 girls with a 6th child on the way. They are a great family! They had us over for dinner when ours cancelled and we got to put up their Christmas tree with them. :]

Our district leader has been sick a lot and came to our ward for sacrament and left. So we sticky noted their door. I really like doing surprise service for people.

Oh! and for my last P-day next week our 'district family' is having a Christmas party. We're going to thrift stores for ugly sweaters, then we're going to take a family picture, then we're decorating ginger bread houses and making a little village. I'm excited!

Last night we picked a random name from our roster to go see, we had a half an hour until we had to be home. So we go to this house and a very nice 35 year old black man answered the door. with 2 half dressed little children running and yelling in the background. one of the kids kept saying 'invite them in!' 'just invite them in!' a bit hesitant but very nicely he invited us in just a little bit and we chatted with him and met his wife. He said 'okay go on with your pitch' and we explained that we're trying to get to know everyone in the ward. He didn't know that he was a member of the church. We explained to him that he is always a member after being baptized. His wife exclaimed "I married a Mormon??" lol they were a great family and we showed them the "he is the gift" video and asked if we could come back and share more. They said they would talk about it but that they would call us whether or not they're interested. So that was a highlight. :]

It's so weird thinking about the reality of me going home soon! Of course I'm excited. But a lot of people don't take the news with excitement. and my companion has only been in this area for three weeks. So she really doesn't know very many people yet. I hope everything goes okay when I leave. I wish I could leave and stay at the same time.
